What is the best airport to fly in and out?

For international flights, the Liberia (LIR) Airport is by far the most convenient, at approximately a 50 minute drive from us.

For domestic flights, the Tamarindo (TNO) Airport is the most convenient at approximately a 10 minute drive from us.

 

Costa Rica has two Modern International Airports that receive flights from all over the world and several smaller, domestic flights only, airports.

These are:

- Liberia International (LIR) airport in the North Pacific region, close to Tamarindo. Approximately a 50 minute drive away.

and

- Juan Santamaria International (SJO) airport in the Central Valley, close to San Jose (our capital city). Approximately 4.5 hours drive away.

 

For domestic flights we have:

-Tamarindo (TNO) airport approximately a 10 minute drive away.

 

The Liberia Airport (LIR) is the closest and most convenient way to get to us on an International Flight.

It is approximately 50 minutes away from Tamarindo.

We provide airport shuttle transfers included in your package from Liberia Airport and the Tamarindo Airport.

 

Liberia International (LIR) should be your first choice for international flights if you have the option.

The Tamarindo (TNO) airport should be your first choice for domestic flights from San Jose or any other domestic, regional airport.

 

Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) is the larger airport and it is served by most major airlines. The flight costs are usually a bit lower into SJO but you will need to factor in the driving time and cost of the transfer from San Jose to Tamarindo, plus any time constraints or overnight stays in San Jose. Regardless, we get plenty of people that want to experience San Jose and it's surroundings; we can help you plan your trip accordingly.

Liberia Airport (LIR) Should be your first choice for international flights, it is only 50 minutes away from Tamarindo, a nice easy ride on nice paved very scenic roads. Transfers from LIR are included in our packages.

Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) it is a bout 4.5 hours away by land and about 50 minutes by airplane, SANSA or Nature Air fly into Tamarindo (TNO) airport and there are also private air charters available.

Tamarindo (TNO) airport should be your choice for domestic flights. Transfers from TNO are included in our packages.

SJO is serviced by most airlines and normally has lower air fares, but you need to factor in any extra costs for transfers, nights in San Jose and the travel time. Trasfers from SJO are not included in our packages. We will furnish the land transfer from SJO for an additional fee and it is free for groups of 4 or more.
